Wet room formers – background

Wet rooms negate the need for a shower tray, and essentially there is just a drainage grate in the tiled (or vinyl) floor.

This allows for level access showering which looks great and is highly functional too.

They provide a means of achieving a consistent drainage gradient towards the drain so that all water flows away nicely:

The former is 1st installed…..

…and then tiled over (with large format, 600mm x 600mm porcelain tiles in this example)

You can see how the gradient is maintained towards the drain.

The large tiles are laid in the same bond (pattern) as the rest of the floor, although additional breaks in the tiles have to be made to follow the drainage contours of the wet room former.

This ensures all water is directed into the drain.

This is a difficult tiling job and we take pride in getting excellent cuts for a neat finish with equally spaced grout lines with no lippage.

Sometimes it is easier to use mosaic tiles to tile wetroom trays as they mould to the contours of the tray without the need for complicated cuts

When tiled and grouted the area will direct all the water down the drain (but even if water does seep through, the whole area is tanked so it will still flow down the drain.)

PS Wet rooms are not a DIY job unless you are very well informed, practised & supervised by someone who knows what they are doing.

Finally the glass is added to finish off the wetroom as part of the wider bathroom installation:

What We Do

We install quality wetrooms, bathrooms, en suites & downstairs cloakrooms from start to finish, with all the bits in between taken care of.

We provide advice and guidance during a free site survey, and we have a blog with lots of articles that cover frequently asked questions and show you examples of our recent work.

We install from start to finish, supplying all the necessary trades and project managing the whole process, so you don’t have to (and this includes dealing with the local council where needed).

We work to detailed, itemised estimates with fixed costs, so you can budget properly without fear of unexpected price rises.

Our focus is on doing a proper job for a fair price in a reasonable time.
